MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan sophomore midfielder Simone Lazar has been named one of 33 players selected to attend "Operation Culture Shift" at Stanford University as a part of the Junior Women's Canadian Field Hockey squad.
Lazar (Etobicoke, Ont./Michael Power/St. Joseph's HS) was selected as an alternate to the Canadian Junior National Team last summer and recently finished her sophomore season at CMU in which she earned first-team All-MAC honors. A starter in all 20 games, Lazar scored two goals and tallied three assists and was vital in the Chippewas' defense being ranked second in the Mid-American Conference.
The camp will be held from December 28 to January 4 in preparation for the Pan American Cup. Lazar was selected to attend after a review of over 50 players, including several players from the Senior National Carding Camp.
Lazar will be one of nine starters returning for the Chippewas in 2012 as they seek their first MAC Championship since 2002.
