MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan closed the second week of spring practice with a two-hour workout at the Indoor Athletic Complex on Saturday morning.
The Chippewas spent the majority of the practice in full-contact, 11-on-11 drills that simulated down-and-distance situations in a variety of field positions.
The Chippewas' offense scored three touchdowns during an open-field down-and-distance situation, and all three scores were of the highlight-reel variety.
The first score came on a short slant route from Ryan Radcliff to Jerry Harris , who beat his defender to the inside and out-ran the secondary for a 50-yard touchdown. The scoring play came one snap after Radcliff had hit Cody Wilson on a perfectly thrown corner route, and Wilson dragged his feet inbounds along the sideline for a 15-yard gain.
The offense's second touchdown came at the end of an extended drive by the No. 2 offense against the No. 2 defense. A.J. Westendorp threw a short out route to Jarrett Fleming , who dodged a tackle just after making the catch and ran in for the 15-yard touchdown.
Radcliff and Wilson also set up the third touchdown, connecting on a go route where Wilson ran past his defender and Radcliff dropped the pass over Wilson's outside shoulder. The long gain led to a Wilson scoring run two plays later.
Leron Eaddy made the play of the day defensively, leaping to intercept a tipped Alex Niznak pass in the middle of the field.
The defense also scored two points of its own with a sack in the end zone. The offense was pinned at its own 5-yard line when the No. 1 defensive line, facing an offensive line missing as many as four potential starters, collapsed the pocket and forced a sack.
"It's been a very productive spring," said CMU head coach Dan Enos . "We've tried to be physical on both sides of the ball. We're seeing guys making plays on both sides of the ball, and we're seeing guys getting better. There have been a lot of positives on both sides of the football, but the best thing has been that our football team has had a great attitude."
CMU is back on the field Tuesday for the seventh practice of the spring.
