CMU Closes Weekend with 11-0 Win Over Wagner

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Central Michigan earned its third-straight shutout on Sunday, behind Kari Seddon 's one-hitter and the team's season-high 14 hits, to defeat Wagner, 11-0.
The first two innings were scoreless before the Chippewas (6-5) broke things open in the top of the third.
Brogan Darwin singled to leadoff the inning and advanced to third on a Macy Merchant single two batters later. Brittney Horan singled on a bunt, driving in Darwin and advancing Merchant to third. After a Horan stolen base, senior Amanda Patrick blasted a three-run home run to give the Chippewas a 4-0 lead.
Seddon kept her line flawless in the third, striking out the Seahawk's (0-5) Alyssa McCulloch and Laura Hennig looking before getting MacKenzie Alfaro to ground out to end the inning.
Molly Coldren added another run for the Maroon and Gold in the top of the fourth, hitting her third home run of the season and 17th of her career, to extend the lead to 5-0.
A six-run seventh inning closed the game for the Chippewas, as Brittini Merchant drove in Lauren Bowman on a single and later scored on a wild pitch. Macy Merchant singled and drove in Coldren before Horan singled, driving in Brogan Darwin . CMU closed the inning scoring three more runs on two WU wild pitches and a Bowman RBI single for the 11-0 score.
Seddon, who entered the bottom of the seventh inning having not given up a hit, gave up a leadoff single to Olsen before getting Kristen Matteoni to groundout to end the game.
Patrick led the Chippewas at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, while Horan went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base.
Seddon (1-2) finished the complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts and just the one hit, while giving up just one walk. The shutout was the 17th of her career, moving her into a tie for eighth place with Heidi McLane (1985-88) on CMU's career shutouts list.
The Chippewas have now outscored their opponents 27-0 over their last three games, while giving up just four hits in the three contests.
Coldren finished the USF Under Armour Invitational going 6-for-12 (.500) with two home runs and seven RBI's for a 1.167 slugging percentage.
The Chippewas are back in action on Monday when they take on the Maine Black Bears (7-11) at 2:00 p.m. and the St. Joseph Hawks (8-5) on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
