Chippewas' Streak Snapped, Fall to St. Joseph's, 2-0

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Central Michigan was held without a hit for the first six innings and St. Joseph's Erin Gallagher struck out 11 batters to lead SJU past CMU on Tuesday, 2-0.
Gallagher got things going in the bottom of the first for the Hawks (10-5) striking out the Chippewas' (7-6) Macy Merchant , Lauren Bowman and Brittini Merchant .
After Gallagher struck out her fourth-straight Chippewa in the bottom of the second, Molly Coldren walked, Amanda Klosterman reached on an error and Cory DeLamielleure walked to load the bases, but Ashley Gilson struck out to end the threat.
CMU starter Kari Seddon pitched just as effectively through the first three innings, recording three strikeouts to keep the SJU offense at bay.
In the top of the fourth, St. Joseph's would strike as Monica Aguilar led off with a solo home run to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
The Hawks added another run in the top of the sixth as Bernadette Moran singled and the Chippewas intentionally walked Aguilar to put runners on first and second. After a double steal and a Shannon Kramer walk to load the bases, Dana Bieniek reached on a fielder's choice scoring Moran.
The Chippewas got their first hits of the game in the seventh inning as they attempted comeback on Coldren and Seddon back-to-back singles to leadoff the inning. Brittney Horan came on to pinch-run for Seddon and advanced to second on a Klosterman flyout and Gilson walked to load the bases, but Brogan Darwin grounded out to the first baseman to end the threat and the game.
Seddon (1-3) pitched a complete game while giving up just two earned runs on five hits while striking out six. The senior also went 1-for-3 at the plate.
Gallagher (7-3) allowed just two hits in complete-game fashion, striking out 11 while walking four for the Hawks.
The Chippewas are back in action when they take part in the USF Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
