MOUNT PLEASANT - Senior back Brooke Sihota has garnered Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league office announce Tuesday.
Sihota (Richmond, British Columbia/Hugh McRoberts SS) helped the Chippewas open MAC play with a win at Ball State last Saturday, scoring her first goal of the season in CMU's 5-1 win. The Cardinals had scored three goals in their previous match versus Miami and Sihota's defensive play was vital in containing them to just three shots, zero in the second half.
The Chippewas opened MAC play 1-1 and currently sit in a three-way tie for second place behind Kent State, who has played just one MAC contest. CMU returns home this Saturday versus Missouri State for the first of six-straight home conference games at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
Saturday marks "Success in the '70s" Day in which CMU will honor the 1976 field hockey team, which is being inducted into the CMU Hall of Fame Friday. The Chippewas and Bears are set to start Saturday's contest at noon.
