Storylines
Scouting the Opponents -- The Maroon and Gold have faced three out of this weekend's five opponents before - Villanova, St. Francis and Loyola Marymount. They hold a winning record over all three at 6-2.
MAC Preseason Poll -- The Chippewas were picked to finish fourth in the Mid-American Conference West Division as part of the preseason poll.
Littlewood Classic -- CMU finished its opening weekend 0-5 while in Tempe, Ariz. It faced No. 5 Arizona State, making it the first time since the 2004 season CMU has faced a ranked team during opening weekend.
Coldren Not Skipping a Beat -- Senior Molly Coldren picked up right where she left off last season with two home runs while in Tempe. Coldren has set the home run record the past two seasons at 11 and then 14. She also holds the program's career record of 30 home runs.
Merchant and Horan on a Roll -- Macy Merchant is currently on a four-game hitting streak for the Chippewas. She was held without a hit in the season opener to Minnesota, but has since been on fire. She has had three games in which she recorded two or more hits. Merchant currently leads the team with a .533 batting average.
Like Merchant, Brittney Horan is also on a four-game hitting streak, after being shut out in the season opener. She has had two games in which she recorded two hits and is second on the team in batting with a .429 average.
Split Mound Time -- In their last tournament the Chippewas relied on the arms of Kara Dornbos and Chelsea Sundberg to do most of the pitching, throwing 24.1 out of the total 31 innings. Sundberg currently has a 4.80 ERA while Dornbos leads the team with nine strikeouts. Kristen Kuhlman has pitched 3.2 innings, striking out two, while Morgan Yuncker went three innings with one strikeout.
Caught Stealing -- Cory DeLamielleure has started four games for the Chippewas behind the plate. She currently has a perfect fielding percentage with 18 putouts. She has also thrown out four of the five runners attempting to steal.
Freshmen Impact -- Freshmen Chelsea DeLamielleure and CarolAnn Sexauer each made her CMU debut with starts against Minnesota. DeLamielleure has started four out of the five games at second base, also recording three hits and batting at .250. Sexauer has started all five games at shortstop for the Maroon and Gold and has recorded two hits.
Enjoying Florida -- The Chippewas will remain in Florida for seven days while competing in 12 games.
