MOUNT PLEASANT - Scouts from 11 National Football League clubs visited Mount Pleasant for Central Michigan's annual football pro day on Monday.
Nine members of CMU's 2011 team worked out for the scouts during Monday's session. Taking part in the event were Brian Bennyhoff, David Blackburn, John Carr, Landon Carter, Paris Cotton, Cedric Fraser, Brandon Fricke, Armond Staten and Rocky Weaver.
CMU's pro day mimics the format and drills of the NFL Combine. Players are weighed and measured and tested in the bench press, broad jump, 40-yard dash, short shuttle, long shuttle and 3-cone drill along with position-specific drills.
CMU has become a can't-miss destination for pro scouts in recent years. Seven Chippewas, the most of any Mid-American Conference program, have been selected in the NFL Draft since 2005, and nine former Chippewas were on active NFL rosters at the end of the 2011 NFL regular season.
Pro day marks the beginning of the spring football season at CMU. The Chippewas hit the practice field at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday for the first of 15 spring practices. CMUChippewas.com will have complete coverage of spring practice.
