CMU Offense Cold Against No. 25 USF

TAMPA, Fla. - No. 25 South Florida's offense was too much for Central Michigan as it fell, 6-2 and 5-2 on Wednesday.
Molly Coldren recorded her fourth home run of the season for the Chippewas (2-9) in game one, when she sent a two run shot over the fence, giving the Maroon and Gold their only runs of the game.
The Chippewas fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the third, but rallied to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth behind Coldren's blast. The Bulls (14-4) batted around during a four-run inning and grabbed a 5-2 lead heading to the top of the fifth. USF would add one more in the bottom of the fifth while shutting down the Chippewa offense to seal game one.
Kara Dornbos threw 4.2 innings allowing all six runs on five hits and striking out four. Chelsea Sundberg came on in relief in the bottom of the fifth and finished the game only allowing two hits.
Summer Knoop collected one hit along with Coldren to lead the CMU offense.
The Chippewas struck first in the second game when Brogan Darwin singled to the left side and was advanced to third off a double by Chelsea DeLamielleure. Rachael Hensel reached on an error which allowed Darwin to score.
The Bulls collected a run of their own in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 1-1. The Maroon and Gold would regain the lead in the top of the fourth when Ashley Gilson singled through the left side to bring home DeLamielleure, who had singled to begin the inning.
USF put up three runs in the bottom of the fourth and one in the bottom of the sixth to claim game two.
DeLamielleure and Darwin both finished the game 2-for-3.
Morgan Yuncker was in the circle for 5.2 innings allowing all five runs on five hits. She also struck out one. Kristen Kuhlman came on to retrieve the final out in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Chippewas will compete in the USF Under Armour Showcase Tournament beginning Friday against Temple at 11:30 a.m.
