Statewide Media Visit Campus for Football Media Day

MOUNT PLEASANT - Depth, veteran leadership and a favorable home schedule were among the many topics of discussion at Tuesday’s Football Media Day as head coach Dan Enos and numerous players previewed the season for statewide media members.
Enos met reporters in the team meeting room for a half hour to break down the depth chart and answer questions, all the while focusing his confidence in the team’s depth and veteran leadership entering his third year as head coach.
“We are very excited about our football team right now,” he said. “I think we are on schedule to have a pretty good team. For really the first time we have some competitions going on in a lot of different places.
“We’re at a place right now where we have older players playing and younger players competing and we’re developing guys in between. Right now, the way the roster is built, this is the most excited I’ve been and our staff has been.”
Added to the veteran players competing at every position and staying healthy, the 2012 freshman class has provided even more depth to the squad.
“We’ve injected our freshman class and had a chance for 14 practices to take a look at those guys, and we think we rang the bell again with another recruiting class of not only talented young players, but very good young men, as well,” Enos said.
While Enos and the players are excited for the season, which features an unprecedented seven home games against the likes of Michigan State, Navy and Western Michigan, the team is taking the season day-by-day, practice-by-practice and game-by-game.
“It’s great for our fans, and it’s great for our community,” Enos said. “Having all the people come in to support us will be great, and the players are very excited about it.
“From a fan's perspective, that’s pretty cool to talk about. As the CEO of this company, I have to talk about the next game on our schedule and get our focus on that, and that’s what we’re going to do.”
Following the press conference with Enos, the media members moved to Kelly/Shorts Stadium to interact with the student-athletes.
Players partook in interviews and video features with media outlets from around the community and around the state. Select offensive players met with the reporters first, followed by defensive and special teams players.
Members of the media were able to grab a sneak peek at new graphics inside the Indoor Athletic Complex as well as several enhancements currently underway at Kelly/Shorts – additional bleachers in the south end zone, three temporary luxury suites in the northeast corner, and a new graphics package throughout the stadium. All renovations will be complete in time for the season opener and will remain in place throughout the seven-game home schedule.
