MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Former Central Michigan soccer student-athlete Erica (Rohren) Kral has returned to her alma mater in the role of assistant director of student-athlete services.
Kral is a 2010 graduate of CMU, earning a bachelor of science degree with concentrations in physical education and mathematics. She earned a master of science degree in sport management from the University of Illinois in 2012.
In her new role, Kral will serve as the academic advisor for the Chippewas' baseball, volleyball and track and field/cross country programs. She also will coordinate the department's tutorial program, Chippewa Athlete Mentoring Program and Athletic Directors Leadership Development Program and assist as co-advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
"Erica brings a wide variety of talents back to CMU, and we are excited for the many new perspectives she can give from her experiences both as a student and as an athlete here at CMU," said associate athletics director for student-athlete services Tera Albrecht. "The enthusiasm and understanding she has of her alma mater is a valuable resource to both our current and prospective student-athletes, and her knowledge and background with student-athlete tutorial programs will be critical as we enhance our own program. I enjoyed working with Erica when she was a student-athlete here at CMU, and I am even more thrilled to have her as a colleague on my staff."
Kral previously spent two years as a graduate assistant in Illinois' department of academic services for athletics. She assisted with Life Skills events and Hometown Heroes projects while also coordinating the department's tutoring program, monitoring student-athletes' progress in classes and holding weekly meetings with student-athletes.
Kral also served as the interim director of compliance at the University of Illinois-Springfield during the summer of 2011.
A four-year letterwinner on the soccer field, Kral was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee while at CMU and made the Dean's List eight different semesters. She was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national college athlete honor society, in 2008 and was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV third team the same year. CMU's soccer program posted the nation's highest cumulative team grade-point average during each of her four seasons.
Kral ranked third on the team with 15 points (four goals, seven assists) as a senior in 2008; her seven assists were a team high. She led the team in goals as a freshman (four) and earned Mid-American Conference All-Freshman accolades. Kral finished her career with 34 points on 10 goals and 14 assists.
