MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Jordan Grosjean carried a no-hitter through five innings Saturday as Team Gold took a 6-1 victory over Team Maroon in Game 5 of the Central Michigan baseball team's Fall World Series Classic at Theunissen Stadium.
Nick Regnier broke up Grosjean's bid with a line-drive single in the sixth inning. Grosjean went all seven innings, striking out two and walking two while surrendering four hits.
The was predetermined to go seven innings after Friday's 10-inning game. Gold leads the series 3-1-1. Game 6 is Sunday at 1:05 p.m., the seventh and final game is Tuesday at 2:45 p.m.
"He (Grosjean) did a nice job out there today," CMU coach Steve Jaksa said. "They didn't square up too many balls until later in the game where they got a few hits on him. He stayed under his pitch count pretty good. That's a really good outing for him."
Gold struck quickly on Maroon starter Adam Aldred with a three-run first inning. Aldred allowed four runs while striking out five and walking seven through 4 2/3 innings.
"I think they did a nice job out there defensively," Jaksa said. "When they got a few guys on they did a nice job with plays behind him. Three runs in the first and he was able to make it out."
Adam Collins had two hits for two RBI for Gold. Tyler Huntey also had an RBI.
Logan Regnier's seventh-inning RBI triple accounted for Maroon's lone run.
Brady Williams pitched in relief for the Maroon, striking out three while walking two.
