Noonan Receives 2014 Dick Enberg Award

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Taylor Noonan of the Central Michigan gymnastics team has earned the 2014 Dick Enberg Scholar Athlete of the Year Award.
The Enberg Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award is presented annually to a student-athlete entering his or her senior season. It is named for the CMU alum and sports broadcasting legend who has long championed academic achievement among student-athletes.
Recipients must hold a 3.20 or better grade-point average, have performed with distinction in their sport, and be considered a team leader. Noonan is the second member of the gymnastics team to receive the prestigious award after Kristin Teubner in 2011.
"It was a nice surprise, I had no idea," said Noonan, a general biology major who carries a 3.62 grade point average. "It's really nice. I work hard and I do it for the team. I love this sport and I love this team and it just means the world that it's been recognized.
"I don't do it for myself, I do it for this program. They've given me so much. Coming here and going from a walk-on to earning a scholarship and maintaining the scholarship for these past three years as been tough, but it's definitely worth it. I put a lot of emphasis on school too, and I hold myself to a very high standard, maybe a higher standard in school than I do in the gym. It's nice to know hard work is paying off."
Noonan was a First Team All-Mid-American Conference selection in 2014 and competed in the NCAA Championships on beam. She tied with teammates Emily Heinz and Halle Moraw for first place on beam at the NCAA Regional Championships. She is a three-time All-MAC selection
She helped CMU win record fifth consecutive Mid-American Conference title as she finished secod on both beam and bars at the league championships. She posted six scores of 9.9 or better on bars and on beam during the 2014 season.
