TOLEDO, Ohio - Kaitlyn McIntyre had 16 kills and Jordan Bueter added 11 Friday as the Central Michigan volleyball team downed Toledo, 3-0, in a Mid-American Conference match.
It was the Chippewas' seventh win in their last nine starts as they improved to 7-8 overall, 2-1 in the MAC. CMU plays at Ball State (8-8, 2-1) on Saturday night. The Cardinals defeated Eastern Michigan in five sets on Friday.
CMU swept the Rockets, 25-23, 25-19, 25-20. Toledo is 1-15, 0-3.
"We had a hard time getting in a groove offensively and that led to a slow start," CMU coach Erik Olson said. "But we started to pick it up as the match progressed and we did a lot of good things. We served really well and also did a great job with our blocking."
The Chippewas doubled Toledo in blocks on the night, recording six, including two apiece from McIntrye and junior middle blocker Kalle Mulford.
Olson said that CMU's serve-receive play was one of their strengths in the match. The Chippewas had four service aces on the night, three of which came from junior defensive specialist Haley Barker.
"We were very efficient with our serves," Olson said. "The numbers don't really tell the whole story. We had just four aces, but our execution on our serves was exceptional and it gave us an advantage throughout the night."
McIntrye attacked at .324 percent.
"(Mcintrye) had an outstanding third set," Olson said. "She didn't start off the match as dominant as we usually see from her, but I was happy with the way she responded in the final set. She made a couple plays late in the match that helped us seal the victory."
Kristen Reenders led CMU with 16 digs, while setter Kylie Copple had 29 assists.
Ball State enters Saturday's match having won five of its last seven starts.
"We just have to continue doing what we've been doing," Olson said. "We need to keep getting better match-by-match. I saw improvements (Friday) and I would like to see us maintain consistency in those things when we face Ball State. We've had some hard-fought matches against them the past several years. I expect the same type of battle, so we have to come out ready."
