2015 Schedule
Andy Sneddon, CMUChippewas.comMOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan baseball team will open the 2015 season with a four-game series against Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Fla., Feb. 13-15.
The Chippewas will play their first 20 games away from Mount Pleasant, making two stops in Florida, one in Texas, two in Kansas and two in Indiana.
CMU is scheduled to open at home on Friday, March 20, against Ohio. The three-game series also serves as the Mid-American Conference opener for the Chippewas.
The Chippewas will play every Division I team in the state of Michigan, including MAC rivals Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan, along with Michigan, Michigan State and Oakland.
CMU will play host to Eastern and travel to Western in three-game MAC series. They will play U-M and Oakland twice each, once at home, and once on the road.
The Chippewas and Spartans will meet three times, once in Mount Pleasant, once in East Lansing, and a third time in the 5th Annual Clash at Comerica, which is scheduled for April 15 at Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers.
It is annually the only college baseball game played in a major league stadium.
"It's been a really good series," said Steve Jaksa, who is entering his 13th year as the Chippewas coach. "(MSU coach) Jake Boss and I have talked often and we feel like it's gotten some traction and really helped our rivalry.
"We like to showcase Division I (college) baseball. A lot of people don't get to see that. It gives them an opportunity to see it in that venue. It helps both programs, it helps the recruiting for both programs and it's a good rivalry. "
Three weekend MAC series are scheduled for Theunissen Stadium in addition to the home-opening weekend against Ohio. They are Eastern Michigan (April 10-12), Bowling Green (April 24-26) and Northern Illinois (May 1-3).
CMU makes weekend MAC road trips to Miami (Ohio) (March 27-29), Toledo (April 3-5), Buffalo (April 17-19), Ball State (May 8-10) and Western Michigan (May 14-16).
The MAC Tournament is scheduled for All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio, May 20-23.
After opening with four against Florida Gulf Coast, the Chippewas will play a four-game set with Stetson in DeLand, Fla., before heading to San Marcos, Texas, to play four against Texas State.
The Chippewas will them play four games in the state of Kansas, the first three against Wichita State, the final against the University of Kansas.
The pre-MAC schedule concludes with five games, four at Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind., the fifth at Notre Dame.
At Indiana State, the Chippewas are scheduled to play the host Sycamores, Rutgers (twice) and Canisius.
