Gymnastics Wins at Northern Illinois

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – No. 16 Central Michigan gymnastics grinded out a road victory at Northern Illinois on Sunday, 194.675-194.050.
Leading the way for the Chippewas were their four event winners. A pair of gymnasts tallied 9.9s to win events, Taylor Noonan on beam and Taylor Bolender on floor. Also capturing titles were Kylie Fagan on bars (9.750) and Kirsten Petzold on vault (9.850).
Central Michigan started the meet on bars with Fagan leading the way. Sophomore Karlee Teet tied for second with Northern Illinois’ Natalie Amadio (9.725). The Chippewas finished the rotation with a 48.525, putting them in front of the Huskies who started with a 48.425 on vault.
CMU moved to vault where Kirsten Petzold placed first and junior Halle Moraw was right behind her, finishing second with a 9.825. Third came down to a tie between Central Michigan’s Becca Druien and Northern Illinois’ Jaelyn Olsen (9.775). The Chippewas finished the event with a team score of 48.875.
The Chippewas dominated on floor, scoring a half point higher than the Huskies, 49.100-48.600. Along with Bolender’s Northern Illinois’ Amanda Stepp placed second on the event with a 9.850. Brittany Petzold and Halle Moraw tied for third place with a 9.825, followed by Emily Heinz in fourth (9.800).
The Chippewas fought to stay ahead of Northern Illinois during the final rotation on beam. After two falls, junior Taylor Noonan scored a 9.900, good enough for a first place tie against NIU’s Megan Melendez. Preslee Harrald, Emily Heinz and Northern Illinois’ Kim Gotlund tied for fourth with a 9.800. Central Michigan wrapped up their final rotation with a 48.175.
Central Michigan heads to New Jersey to compete against Rutgers Saturday, March 8, at 1 p.m.
