No. 17 Gymnastics Takes Second at Rutgers Invite

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — For No. 17 Central Michigan gymnastics, Saturday’s meet at Rutgers showcased both the good and the bad for the squad.
CMU dominated the individual results with gymnasts finishing first on all four events to go along with second-place finishes on three of the four events. The event winners were Kirsten Petzold (vault, 9.925), Kylie Fagan (bars, 9.925), Taylor Noonan (9.875, beam) and Halle Moraw (9.925, floor).
Unfortunately, Central Michigan had to count a fall on bars on its way to a 195.725, allowing Rutgers to win the meet with a program record mark of 196.225. CMU (14-3 overall) did defeat three other schools, Towson (191.675), Yale (191.575) and Southern Connecticut State (191.375).
CMU began the meet on beam with Noonan’s strong performance capturing first along with two Rutgers’ gymnasts. Moraw tied for fourth, scoring a personal best 9.850. Central Michigan finished beam with a 49.100.
Taylor Bolender and Moraw carried the Chippewas through their floor rotation, sweeping the top two spots. Moraw took first with a 9.925 while Bolender placed second, tying her career-high with a 9.900. The Chippewas finished the rotation with a 49.050.
Sophomore Kirsten Petzold led the way on vault, tying her career-high with a 9.925. Teammates Moraw and Brittany Petzold, along with Rutgers’ Luisa Leal, tied for second with a 9.875. The Chippewas finished their vault rotation with a season-high 49.275, which is also tied for the second-best score in program history.
Fagan and Brittany Petzold helped the Chippewas rebound from a pair of falls on bars. Fagan finished first with a career-best 9.925 and Petzold place second, scoring a 9.900. Central Michigan posted a team score of 48.300.
Central Michigan wraps up the regular season at home against rival Western Michigan on Saturday, March 15, at 1 p.m.
