CMU Hits the Road for Four League Games

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan softball team will attempt to remain atop the Mid-American Conference West Division this weekend when it travels to Buffalo and Kent State for a four-game league series.
The Chippewas (24-10, 3-1 MAC) will face-off against Buffalo (17-16, 1-1 MAC) on Friday, the Bulls are currently in last place in the MAC East standings.
Buffalo most recently spilt a pair of games against Niagara on Wednesday in a non-conference match-up, while the Chippewas will enter Friday’s game on a seven-game win streak after earning two more wins on Wednesday to Oakland University.
The first game of Friday’s doubleheader is set to start at 1 p.m.
Currently in fifth place in the East Division, Kent State (16-14, 2-2 MAC) will play host on Saturday and Sunday. The Golden Flashes will take on Eastern Michigan in a doubleheader Friday before facing off against CMU.
Junior Trista Cox continues to lead the Maroon and Gold at the plate with a .375 batting average, while junior CarolAnn Sexauer is hitting .373, and sophomore Katelyn Rentschler is at .289.
Cox tops the Chippewas with eight homeruns, 26 RBI and 39 hits.
Senior catcher Cory DeLamielleure has also made significant contributions at the plate boasting a team-high 10 doubles and third-best RBI (18) and homeruns (4).
Sophomore Chelsea DeLamielleure is CMU’s second-leading homerun hitter with seven and RBI with 19 on the season.
CMU’s pitching rotation has been strong as the primary starters, seniors Morgan Yuncker, Chelsea Sundberg and freshman Rachael Knapp have recorded a combined 22-9 record. Junior Kristen Kuhlman earned her first win of the season Wednesday in a 6-5 win over the Grizzlies.
Saturday’s game is set for 2 p.m. while Sunday’s game will begin at 1 p.m.
