Knapp Fires One-Hitter, Chippewas Down Western, 4-1

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Freshman Rachael Knapp fired a one-hitter and Karly Hansen delivered a pinch-hit RBI double to break a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning Sunday as the Central Michigan softball team topped Western Michigan, 4-1, in a Mid-American Conference game at Margo Jonker Stadium.

The win lifted CMU to 28-15 overall, 7-5 MAC. Western is 16-27, 7-7. The Chippewas remain two games behind Ball State in the MAC West Division. The Cardinals defeated Ohio, 7-0, on Sunday and are 7-3 in the league.

Knapp (10-2) walked six and struck out four. Sabrina Gamboa had the Broncos’ lone hit, a two-out single in the first inning.

The Chippewas collected nine hits, six of them doubles, off losing pitcher Erin Binkowski (3-13), who struck out two.

Chelsea DeLamielleure had two hits to lead CMU, and Danielle Marlink had a two-run double in the sixth inning, extending CMU’s lead to 4-1.
