Softball Set For Mid-Week Double Header

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan softball team is slated to take on in-state foe Oakland University in a mid-week double header Wednesday at Margo Jonker Stadium.
The Chippewas (22-10, 3-1 MAC) will look to earn their sixth-straight win over the Grizzlies (11-13, 0-2 Horizon).
Wednesday’s match-up is the first and only meeting between the two squads this season in a series in which CMU leads 13-3 all-time.
The Maroon and Gold are tied for first in the MAC in doubles (51), second in homeruns (28) and third in runs scored (148).
Junior Trista Cox has contributed to the team’s success offensively boasting a .378 batting average while leading the team in hits (37), RBI (23) and is tied for first in homeruns (7).
In addition to big at-bats for the Chippewas, the primary starting pitching staff including seniors Morgan Yuncker and Chelsea Sundberg, and freshman Rachael Knapp have gone a combined 21-9 retiring 170 batters.
The Grizzlies enter Wednesday’s contest losing five out of the last six games and have had to cancel 12 games so far this season.
The first game of the double header is scheduled for 2 p.m.
