MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan University softball program has again been recognized by the NCAA for its academic achievement.
The Chippewas, under the direction of longtime coach Margo Jonker, received the Public Recognition Award from the NCAA for the second consecutive season. CMU posted a perfect APR mark of 1000 in 2012-13 after tallying a 997 in 2011-12.
“We are pleased that our student-athletes have received such a prestigious recognition,” Jonker said. “We truly value the student-athlete experience. The ability to win in the classroom and on the field is what our program is all about.”
The award goes to programs at NCAA-member institutions that post an Academic Progress Rate in the top 10 percent of their sport.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in each sport. The scores are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2009-10 academic year through the 2012-13 academic year.
