Five Chippewas Earn All-MAC Honors

AVON, Ohio – Five Central Michigan student-athletes were named to the All-Mid American Conference baseball team Tuesday on the eve of the league tournament.
Pitchers Tim Black and Pat Kaminska each earned a spot on the All-MAC first team, while catcher Tyler Huntey, first baseman Cody Leichman, and outfielder Logan Regnier were named to the second team.
Each team comprised 15 players representing the league’s 12 members.
The Chippewas went 19-8 in MAC play, finishing second overall and in the West Division. CMU is 35-21 and is scheduled to open MAC Tournament play at 8 p.m. Wednesday against Akron, 25-28, 12-15, at All Pro Freight Stadium.
The tournament champion earns the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Kaminska, who will start Wednesday against the Zips, is a senior right-hander who is 8-2 with a 2.04 earned run average. His ERA is the lowest among MAC starting pitchers, and his eight wins tie him for second in the league. He is holding opposing hitters to a .228 batting average, third best in the league.
Black, the Chippewas’ closer, is 2-1 with a 1.91 ERA and nine saves. The junior right-hander has struck out 26 and walked just nine in 28 1/3 innings this season, and his nine saves rank second in the league.
Kaminska and Black are part of a pitching staff that has accumulated a MAC-best 3.29 team ERA.
Leichman, a junior, is hitting .319 and leads CMU with seven home runs, 55 RBI and a .505 slugging percentage. He ranks first in the MAC in RBI and is tied for third in home runs. His 103 total bases rank him fifth in the conference.
Regnier, a sophomore, leads the Chippewas with a .322 batting average and a .404 on-base percentage. He has 69 hits in 214 at-bats, and is second on the team in both runs (47) and stolen bases (22).
Huntey, a junior, is hitting .316 and leads CMU with 72 hits (in 228 at-bats) and is second on the club in home runs (5) and RBI (49), and carries a .443 slugging percentage, second to Leichman among Chippewa regulars. Huntey’s 72 hits rank third in the MAC.
