Huntey, Kaminska Share Team MVP Honors

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Tyler Huntey walked away with three awards and Pat Kaminska collected two Tuesday during the Central Michigan baseball team's annual awards banquet.
Huntey, a junior catcher, and Kaminska, a senior pitcher, shared the team Most Valuable Player Award.
Huntey also was named the Most Improved Player and shared team captain honors with Pat MacKenzie.
Kaminska earned the Chippewa Award, while senior Noel Santos received the Kevin Young Memorial Endowment.
The Chippewa Award goes annually to the player who epitomizes the program and its mission statement: "The Central Michigan University baseball team will strive to achieve excellence. We will commit to play with passion, effort and an attitude that enhances the continued pride, integrity and tradition of the Chippewa Baseball Family."
The Kevin Young Memorial Endowment is named in honor of the late Kevin Young, who earned three letters at CMU from 1992-94, was an All-American and the Mid-American Conference player of the year in '94, and went on to play professionally for four years, reaching the Double A level.
He passed away unexpectedly in 2008 at the age of 36.
Santos, who played primarily at shortstop and in left field and who hails from New York, carries a 3.16 grade point average, best among seniors on the CMU roster.
Kaminska, a right-hander from Phoenix, Arizona, finished the season 8-3 with a 2.47 earned run average and held opposing hitters to a .239 batting average.
Among MAC pitchers, Kaminska was third in ERA, tied for third in victories, and was fifth in batting average against. He garnered first team All-MAC honors.
Huntey, a who hails from Stanwood, Michigan, earned a spot on the All-MAC second team after hitting a team-best .329 with five home runs and 51 RBI.
His home run and RBI totals were second on the team, and his 78 hits led the Chippewas and were second in the MAC. He finished fifth in the league RBI race and his 109 total bases were the third-best total among MAC hitters.
Huntey came into the season with a .239 career average and two homers and 26 RBI.
MacKenzie, a junior second baseman, hit .271 with 15 RBI and his 46 walks led the MAC and tied him for ninth among all NCAA Division I players.
Junior pitcher Matt Trowbridge carries a 3.98 GPA, tops among non-senior Chippewas with a minimum of five semesters at CMU, while infielder Colton Bradley completed the year with a 3.57 GPA, tops among Chippewa freshmen.
The Chippewas finished 35-23 overall, 19-10 in the Mid-American Conference. They finished second in the MAC West Division and their .655 winning percentage in league games was second overall to Ball State.
