Chippewas Drop Regular-Season Finale at Miami

OXFORD, Ohio -- The Central Michigan University softball team closed the regular season Sunday with a 3-0 Mid-American Conference loss to Miami (Ohio).
The Chippewas are 32-20 overall, 10-10 league, and are seeded sixth for the MAC Tournament which begins Wednesday in Akron. They will face the host Zips, who are seeded third, on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Akron is 27-14, 12-6. The Chippewas and Zips did not meet in the regular season. CMU is the defending MAC Tournament champion.
Miami’s Paige Myers and Amber Logemann combined to hold CMU to four hits – all singles – on Sunday.
Myers started and went two innings, and Logemann (8-11) earned the win with five innings of relief. Each allowed two hits and struck out three.
Trista Cox had two of CMU’s hits. The Chippewas never got a runner past second base.
Rachael Knapp (13-4) started and took the loss for CMU. She allowed 10 hits, walked three and struck out four over 5 2/3 innings. Morgan Yuncker pitched 1/3 of an inning in relief.
The Redhawks chased Chippewas starter Rachael Knapp(13-4) for 10 hits through five and two thirds innings. She walked three and struck out four in addition to giving up the three earned runs.
Miami broke the scoreless tie on Tiyona Marshall’s two-out RBI single in the fourth inning. The RedHawks added a run in the fifth on an Allie Larrabee sacrifice fly, and a run in the sixth on a Kayla Ledbetter RBI single.
