MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - A clean sweep for future Chippewas.
Taylor Weaver of Romeo and Sara Hansen of Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart Academy were named the top high school softball seniors in Michigan last week by the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association.
Hansen was named Miss Softball Position Player and Weaver was named Miss Softball Pitcher. Both will join coach Margo Jonker's CMU softball program this fall.
Weaver, who last week was named the Gatorade Michigan Player of the Year, pitched Romeo to the Division I state semifinals, finishing the 2014 season with a 24-2 record, a 0.65 earned run average, and 267 strikeouts against just 42 walks.
She wrapped up a brilliant four-year prep career with a 93-10 mark and a 0.93 ERA. She struck out 918 and walked 71.
Hansen, a shortstop, hit .547 and was a perfect 50-for-50 in stolen bases this season for Sacred Heart Academy.
Hansen closed her career with a state record 305 hits, while hitting .567 with a .592 on-base percentage. She also had a 91-game hit streak and scored 252 runs, both second-best all-time among high school softball players in the nation.
The 82 runs scored by Hansen during her sophomore season in 2012 equals the national record.
