MUNCIE, Ind. - Junior Kaysie Gregory scored both goals Saturday as Central Michigan snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over Ball State.
It was the Mid-American Conference for both teams. CMU is 2-8, while the Cardinals, who have lost five straight, are 3-5.
Gregory's first goal came just 3 minutes, 37 seconds in off a rebound on a penalty corner by Kianne Hinkle. Hinkle and Gregory hooked up again less than six minutes later, completing the scoring before the game as 10 minutes old.
"For us to come out and be able to score about three and half minutes into the game was huge for our team," CMU head coach Cristy Freese said, "Being able to put it in the goal early gave us a lot of confidence."
Gregory has a team-high four goals on the season.
The Chippewa defense aided junior goalkeeper Sadie Lynn Reynolds by stopping eight penalty corners. Reynolds made 10 saves in recording her fourth career shutout. The Cardinals outshot the Chippewas, 15-6.
"We worked on our penalty corner defense for some things that we knew Ball State would do," Freese said. "Our team did a good job on following the game plan."
Central Michigan will play host to Longwood at noon, Sunday, Oct. 5, in a MAC game at the Central Michigan field hockey complex. The Lancers are 4-6 overall, 1-2 league.
It marks the first of three consecutive home games for the Chippewas. They play host to Miami on Oct. 10, and to Northwestern on Oct. 12.
