MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Two Central Michigan players were named Mid-American Conference field hockey players of the week following the Chippewas 2-0 league victory over Ball State in Muncie, Ind.
Midfielder Kaysie Gregory was named the Offensive Player of the Week, and goalkeeper Sadie Lynn Reynolds earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for their roles in the victory, which snapped a four-game losing streak.
Gregory, a junior from Rome, N.Y., accounted for both CMU goals, giving the Chippewas their ultimate margin of victory within the first 9 minutes, 2 seconds of the contest.
She scored her first just 3:37 into the game, putting in a shot off a rebound on a penalty corner, and then capped off the scoring with her second of the day under six minutes later. Gregory leads CMU with nine points and four goals, scored off of just seven total shots.
Reynolds, a junior from Prospect, Ky., faced 15 shots and totaled 10 saves in recording her first shutout of the season. Reynolds has started all 10 games and played all 700 minutes in goal for CMU this season, notching 80 total saves.
The Chippewas are 2-8 overall, 1-0 MAC. They play host to Longwood in a conference game on Sunday, Oct. 5.
