MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Daniel Robinson singled and doubled and Jarod Burton added two hits Tuesday as the Maroon team took a 3-0 victory from the White team in the seventh and final game of the Central Michigan baseball team's Fall World Series Classic at Theunissen Stadium.
The White team won five games in the series, while the Maroon won one. There was one tie.
Morgan Oliver, Blake Cleveland and Robert Greenman each singled for Maroon. Burton, Oliver and Jarrod Watkins each drove in a run.
Josh Pierce, Connor Kelly, Cal Djuraskovic and Brady Williams pitched for Maroon.
Zack Fields had two hits including a double and Dazon Cole singled twice to lead White. Daniel Jipping added a single.
Sean Renzi, Jimmy McNamara, Jordan Grosjan and Dazon Cole each took a turn on the mound for White.
"I think we got better," CMU coach Steve Jaksa said in looking back on the series. "I think we did some things that show how we want to play the game. I think we got closer to that point.
"From an individual standpoint, we were able to move a lot of guys to try to look at their versatility. You're also trying for consistency of play. Some guys struggle with that consistency, the ability to have a quality at-bat time after time after time.
"And we got to watch the freshmen develop."
Jaksa said he was particularly interested in the performance of his catching corps, where four backstops - Greenman, Dylan Goodwin, Cleveland and Evan Kratt -- are in the mix to replace two-year starter Tyler Huntey, who graduated after the 2015 season.
"We got a good look at our catchers," Jaksa said. "Mixed and matched a little bit, and they got to catch all the pitchers, got to know them a little bit and gain their trust."
