MUNCIE, Ind. - Elaine Materise saved her best for last, as did the Central Michigan field hockey team.
Materise scored two goals in her final collegiate game, leading the Chippewas to a 4-1 Mid-American Conference victory over Ball State.
The win snapped a three-game CMU losing streak as the Chippewas finished 2-15 overall, 2-4 league in Molly Pelowski's first year as coach.
"I'm very, very happy with how we played," Pelowski said "We were able to make adjustments and stuck to the game plan and we executed. We played well against a very tenacious team."
The four goals were a season-high for the Chippewas, who were outshot 10-8 and finished with four corners to the Cardinals' seven.
CMU goalkeeper Sadie Lynn Reynolds closed her career with a seven-save victory.
Maude Stalars and Alex Gonda also scored for the Chippewas, while Kaysie Gregory and Kianne Hinkle finished with two assists apiece. Haley Bova also had an assist.
It was the first multi-goal game for Matrise, one of seven seniors on the CMU roster.
"It's been a season of a lot of challenges and winning makes everybody feel better, makes everything better, and we were able to finish this win off," Pelowski said. "So many good things happened today both for our individual players and the coaching staff. Lot of work to do in order to continue to build the foundation."
