MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan field hockey coach Molly Pelowski announced Tuesday three signees who comprise her first recruiting class.
"I am very excited to announce my first recruiting class here at Central Michigan University," said Pelowski, who was named CMU's coach in February and recently completed her first season as the head of the program.
"We are in the business of winning championships and building champions," Pelowski said. "I know these athletes will help to elevate the level of play and embody the values of our program. These three athletes are willing to commit to the work that must be done to earn wins on the field and in the classroom."
The new Chippewas are Sarah Mesko of Chelsea, Willow Guenther of Novi, and Abigail Ebersole of Duncannon, Pa.
Mesko is a defender/mid, Guenther plays mid/forward, and Ebersole is a goalkeeper who plans to enroll at CMU in January.
Ebersole recorded 27 shutouts and made more than 500 career saves at Susquenita High School.
"Ebersole is an outstanding goalkeeper who demonstrates an incredible work ethic," Pelowski said. "We are looking for her to compete for a position between the pipes. Having her on campus early is such a wonderful opportunity for her to immediately adjust to the speed of the college game and help to build our defensive structure."
Mesko was a two-time team captain and two-time All-Stater at Chelsea High School.
"Sarah is a highly regarded student-athlete from Chelsea High School and Pinnacle Field Hockey Club," Pelowski said. "I know that she will demonstrate an unrelenting commitment to our team and to Central Michigan University.
"She is going to be a great defender, teammate and someone that will exemplify Chippewa excellence both on the field and in the classroom."
Guenther holds the Novi High School career record for points (66) and her resumé includes nine years of AAA ice hockey.
"With her background in ice hockey, I know Willow will help to improve our attack and goal-scoring production," Pelowski said. "She will challenge her teammates and help our team attack."
