
Chippewas Strike Early in 9-5 Softball Win

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Central Michigan softball team scored eight runs in its first two at-bats Wednesday, and went on to post a 9-5 non-conference victory over Maine in the Michelle Smith Spring Break Tournament, hosted by South Florida.
CMU (5-10) collected eight hits on the day to back winning pitcher Rachael Knapp (4-4), who struck out 11 and allowed five innings over 6 2/3 innings in relief of starter Taylor Weaver.
The Chippewas play Penn in a doubleheader on Thurday. Penn posted a 1-0 win over CMU on Sunday.
Lacy Tolfree led CMU at the plate with two hits, while Chelsea DeLamielleure, Krista Kuhlman and Katelyn Rentschler drove in two runs apiece.
