Chippewas Go 6-6 on Florida Trip

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Sophomore Rachael Knapp tossed a four-hitter Saturday as Central Michigan closed its Florida spring break trip with a 2-0 win over Yale in the Michelle Smith Tournament, hosted by South Florida.
The Chippewas went 6-6 on the 12-game trip and returns to Mount Pleasant 8-13 on the season. CMU, which dropped a 6-1 decision to Rutgers on Saturday morning, is scheduled to play Valparaiso on March 24.
Knapp struck out five, walked one and allowed four hits in improving to 5-4.
The Chippewas backed Knapp with a six-hit attack, including a sixth-inning RBI single by Katelyn Rentschler.
CMU got on the board in the fifth when Chelsea DeLamieullere led off with a bunt single, stole second and came around to score on an error.
Rentschler doubled and homered for the Chippewas against Rutgers. She also homered Friday in a victory over Quinnipiac.
CMU starter Hanna Warren (1-5) allowed four runs on six hits and walked two in taking the loss. Taylor Weaver surrendered two runs on three hits in two innings of relief.
