
CMU Baseball Makes it 2 Straight Over Miami

OXFORD, Ohio -- It took all hands on deck Saturday as the Central Michigan baseball team battled and eventually pulled out a 4-3 win over Miami (Ohio) to take game two of the three-game Mid-American Conference series at the RedHawks' .
The win, CMU's second straight, moves the Chippewas to 17-10, 4-1 in the MAC. Miami is 4-18, 2-3.
The Chippewas scored twice in the sixth inning to tie the game, 3-3, then scored the go-ahead run in the seventh on Pat MacKenzie's two-out RBI single.
Sean Martens, Sean Renzi and Tim Black combined to shut out the RedHawks over 5 1/3 innings of relief.
Martens (3-0), a freshman right-hander, earned the win and Black picked up the save, his eighth. The RedHawks managed back-to-back two-out singles in the ninth off Black, but he got the final out on a liner.
"I was very happy with the win today," CMU coach Steve Jaksa said. "We were able to battle back very well, we got some timely hitting and our bullpen pitched real well."
CMU starter Adam Aldred allowed three runs on five hits, while walking three and striking out two over 3 2/3 innings.
Miami outhit the Chippewas, 10-7, but stranded 10 baserunners. Neither team committed an error.
CMU seized a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Tyler Huntey's sacrifice fly.
Miami went ahead 3-1, scoring all three of its runs in the third inning. Matt Honchel drove in two runs with a single, and Adam Yacek also had an RBI single.
The Chippewas drew even in the sixth. Huntey drew a two-out walk and went to third on a Logan Regnier single. Huntey scored on a passed ball, and Regnier later crossed the plate on a Daniel Jipping single.
CMU will attempt to complete the series sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m.
