
Chippewas Fall in Series Opener at Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Nick Deeg suffered his shortest outing of the season Friday as Buffalo collected 18 hits in handing the Central Michigan baseball team an 11-7 loss at the Bulls' Audobon Field.
The loss ended CMU's win streak at six games. The Chippewas are 25-13 overall, 10-3 Mid-American Conference. Buffalo is 11-19, 5-8.
The teams will play Saturday at 1 p.m. and conclude the series Sunday at 1 p.m. Sean Renzi will start for CMU on Saturday. The Chippewas entertain Northwood in a non-league game on Tuesday, April 22, at 4:05 p.m.
CMU scored three runs in its first at-bat when Alex Borglin scored on a passed ball and Logan Regnier hit an RBI single and Joe Houlihan drew a bases-loaded walk.
Buffalo answered with two runs in the second and four in the third to seize a 6-4 lead. The lead grew to 11-5 after five frames.
Deeg (6-3) had his first true rough outing of the season. He allowed nine runs on 10 hits, walked two and struck out three.
Deeg entered the game leading CMU with a 1.68 earned run average, and had only allowed 11 earned runs on the season through 59 innings.
Sean Martens and Connor Kelly worked in relief for the Chippewas, who scroed twice in the eighth to draw to 11-7, then stranded two runners in the ninth.
Houlihan and Regnier had two hits apiece and Borglin doubled.
Brent Cleland (2-4) earned the win.
