CMU Track & Field 2nd at Indiana State

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Central Michigan men's and women's track teams each placed second in the three-day Indiana State Gibson Invitational.
"Since I've been here, this meet has been the best that we've competed in so far," said Mark Guthrie, who took over as CMU's director of track & field/cross country in July, 2013. "I couldn't be more happy with the teams at this point. I think they did a great job."
The Chippewas strung together 11 firsts -- seven by the women, three by the men -- at the three-day meet.
Indiana State won both the men's and women's team titles. The Sycamore men finished with 178 points. The Chippewas finished with 135. The Indiana State women finished with 259.5 points, while the CMU women had 159.5.
Eight teams comprised the invitational.
The CMU women swept the throwing events as Devene Brown won the discus, 169 feet, 2 inches; and the shot put, 49-8 1/2; Kylee Dobbelaere won the hammer throw, 185-1; and Kyleigh Young won the javelin at 139-11.
The Chippewas' Kelsey Ross won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 10.82 seconds; Abbey Kelto was first in the 5,000 in 17:03.29; and Ravyn Baxter won the 400 in 54.64.
CMU was second in the 4x100 relay (Diamond Hamilton, Tina Davis, Markala Goodson, Baxter) and in the 4x400 relay (Emma Fishnick, Baxter, Bridget Doughty, Davis).
The Chippewas' Shaya Wilkerson tied for second in the high jump and placed second in the triple jump, while Bridget Doughty was second and Fishnick was third in the 400 hurdles.
Hamilton placed third in the 100 and fourth in the 200, CMU's Michaela Bundy was fourth in the 800, and Esther Bell placed fourth in the 1,500.
The CMU men got victories in the 4x400 relay, the 800, the discus and the javelin.
Erick Huertas, Clay Holman, Ziemowit Dutkiewicz and Malik Vasquez teamed up to win the 4x400 relay in 3:11.76.
CMU's Cole Walderzak won the discus with a throw of 174-11, Kyle Allinder was first in the 800 in 1:52.99, and Brandon McCleese won the javelin with a throw of 190-6.
Also for the CMU men, Dylan Banagis was second in the discus and third in the hammer throw; Lorenzo Wells was second in the 200; Huertas was second and Vaszquez was third in the 400; Dutkiewicz was second and Ja'Corey Lipsey was fourth in the 400 hurdles; Ben Wynsma was third in the 5,000; Joseph Emmanuel was third in the 1,500; and Malik Peacock, Wells, Curtis Mitchell and Tahshon Reese combined to placed second in the 4x100 relay.
Next weekend, the Chippewas will split up their teams to compete at the Redhawk Invitational at Miami (Ohio), the Ashland Alumni Meet, at Ashland University, and the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania.
