Richards, 4x100 team, and 4x400 team find the podium in the final day of the MAC Championships
MUNCIE, Ind. — Central Michigan Track & Field concluded the Mid-American Conference Track & Field Championships Saturday afternoon.
The Chippewa relay team bookended the day with the 4x100 and the 4x400 teams. The 4x100 team of Danica Shamion, Sophia Garland, Andrea Merin, and Ella Sweatt set a season best of 46.17 seconds for a sixth-place finish.
The 4x400 team of Shamion, Libby Munderloh, Sweatt, and Robyn Watts took home eighth overall with a 3:46.89 finish.
Linnearia Richards started individual running events for the Chippewas with the 400m hurdles finals. Her 1:00.45 finishing time was good for a sixth-place finish.
The distance team of Kyah Hoffman, Kate Jenkins, Ava Teed, and Logan Brazee took on the 5000m to close out individual running events. Hoffman led the way with a 17:24.13 finish for 21st overall. Jenkins followed up with a 17:37.02 finish, Teed logged 17:42.31, and Brazee closed out with 18:00.26.
Central Michigan in 12th place with 23 total points in the 13-team MAC Championships. Akron won the team championship with 135.50 total points.
"We are extremely disappointed with the overall team finish. We know we can do better and I hope this will motivate us in the future. That being said we had some really great moments and the team finish should not take away from that," Central Michigan Director of Track & Field Jenny Swieton said. "We are going to go back to the drawing board and come back better."
