MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Molly Pelowski's inaugural game as the Central Michigan field hockey coach is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 28, when the Chippewas open the 2015 season at home against Delaware.
The following day, CMU entertains Michigan State, where Pelowski served as an assistant for seven years before taking over the Chippewa program on Feb. 3, 2015.
Delaware finished 13-9 last season, winning its second consecutive Colonial Athletic Association championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament. MSU went 10-9 in 2014 and is one of four Big Ten teams the Chippewas will face in 2015.
The schedule comprises 17 games including one each against the Chippewas' MAC brethren. CMU, 7-12 in 2014, shared the regular-season Mid-American Conference championship last season with Kent State (11-10). Kent State won the MAC Tournament and represented the league in the NCAA Tournament.
After back-to-back road trips, first to Virginia to play Virginia Commonwealth (5-13) and William and Mary (7-12), the second to Illinois to play Northwestern (16-7) and Drexel (10-8), the Chippewas return to Mount Pleasant on Sept. 18 to take on California-Davis (6-14).
CMU's Mid-American Conference opener is at Longwood (6-12) on Sept. 25. On Oct. 1, CMU begins a six-game homestand with a non-leaguer against Pacific (7-12). It's MAC home opener is scheduled for Oct. 2 against Ohio (6-11).
CMU's rugged non-conference schedule includes matches with Iowa (11-7), Michigan (13-7) and Louisville (15-6). Four of CMU's opponents were ranked in the final Top 20 last season. Northwestern was seventh, Louisville 10th, Michigan 13th and Iowa 16th.
Four teams on the Chippewas' 2014 schedule -- Northwestern, Delaware, Louisville and Kent State -- appeared in the NCAA Tournament last season.
CMU concludes the regular season on Oct. 30 at Ball State (5-11), and will host the MAC Tournament on Nov. 6-7.
