MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan baseball team will kick off its fall season on Friday at 3:05 p.m. when it hosts the Ontario Blue Jays in its annual International Game at Theunissen Stadium.
The Chippewas return plenty of talent - including weekend starting pitchers Nick Deeg, Sean Renzi and Adam Aldred - from a team that won the Mid-American Conference regular-season championship last spring.
The Blue Jays are a premier travel team based just outside of Toronto comprising some of the best young players in Canada.
"It's an opportunity for us to get out there and play like it's a regular game," CMU coach Steve Jaksa said. "It's an exhibition game in nature, but we've got umpires, everybody's in full uniform, we have (batting practice) just like a game.
"We like our fans to come out and get a little peek at our guys early."
The Chippewas are scheduled to begin their annual Fall World Series on Friday, Oct. 9, at 3:05 p.m.
The roster will be divided in half with seniors leading each team. A draft is scheduled just before the start of the seven-game schedule which continues on noon on Saturday, Oct. 10; and at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11.
Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 2:45 p.m. followed by the final three games: Friday, Oct. 16, 3:05 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 18, 1 p.m.; and Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2:30 p.m.
The Saturday, Oct. 10 game will be preceded by a team and family picnic.
