MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Student-athletes from the Central Michigan baseball program will put their skills on display Sunday in front of professional scouts at Theunissen Stadium.
The Chippewas' annual Scout Day is scheduled for 11 a.m. An exhibition game follows at noon. The event is open to the public and admission is free.
"The day further develops the relationships that we have with our scouts in the area," said CMU coach Steve Jaksa, who was named the Mid-American Conference coach of the year after leading his Chippewas to the regular-season league championship last spring. "It gives them a chance to see our new student-athletes as well as our veterans who have improved through summer leagues.
"It's a great opportunity to showcase our student-athletes as well as our program."
Scouts representing some 20 Major League Baseball organizations are expected to be on hand to evaluate prospective players, who will be timed in a 60-yard dash, go through a batting practice session along with an extended infield session.
Each draft-eligible pitcher will throw at least one inning during a simulated game.
CMU's annual seven-game Fall World Series is scheduled to begin on Friday, Oct. 9, at 3:05 p.m. The remainder of the schedule: Saturday, Oct. 10, noon; Sunday, Oct. 11, 1 p.m.; Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2:45 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 16, 3:05 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 18, 1 p.m.; Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2:45 p.m. All games are scheduled for Theunissen Stadium.
A picnic is scheduled for after the Oct. 10 game. It is open to the public.
