CMU Falls in Tourney Opener

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Central Michigan volleyball team came up short Friday evening, falling to host Cleveland State, 3-1, in the opening round of the Cleveland State Invitational.
After a rough first set, in which CMU fell, 25-15, the Chippewas clawed their way back to even the matchwith a 25-20 victory in set two.
The Chippewas (1-3) surrendered the final two sets, 25-22, 25-23.
Sophomore Jordan Bueter led the Chippewas in kills once again, tallying 11 on the night. Taylor Robertson and Jessica Meichtry each logged 10.
CMU setters Kathia Sanchez and Marissa Grant finished with 19 and 11 assists, respectively. Freshman defensive specialist Jamison Wolffis led the Chippewas with 19 digs.
Central Michigan's hitting percentage registered at .179 for the match. Cleveland State (5-1) finished with a .213 clip.
Christina Toth had 18 kills for Cleveland State, while setter Gina Kilner had 52 assists.
The Chippewas are slotted to play Cincinnati and Binghamton on Saturday. CMU and the Bearcats will square off at 10 a.m., then will play Binghamton at 4:30 p.m.
Cinncinnati (3-1) opened the tournament on Friday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Binghamton (1-4).
