MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan's Cooper Rush is one of 15 quarterbacks nationwide to make the midseason watch list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
Rush, a senior from Charlotte, was one of the 43 signal-callers who made the preseason watch list for the award. He and Western Michigan's Zach Terrell are the only Mid-American Conference representatives on the midseason list.
Rush and Terrell, along with Houston's Greg Ward, are the only players on the list who hail from schools that do not belong to a Power-5 conference.
Rush has completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 1,806 yards and 15 touchdowns in leading the Chippewas to a 4-2 start.
The award goes to the nation's top college quarterback. It was first handed out in 1987 and is named for Hall of Famer Johnny Unitas, who many consider to have been the greatest quarterback of all time. He was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979 and died in 2002.
The remainder of the midseason watch list: J.T. Barrett, Ohio State; Joshua Dobbs, Tennessee; Luke Falk, Washington State; Chad Kelly, Ole Miss; Trevor Knight, Texas A&M; Patrick Mahomes, Texas Tech; Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma; Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma State; Seth Russell, Baylor; Mitch Trubisky, North Carolina; Deshaun Watson, Clemson; Davis Webb, California.
CMU plays at Northern Illinois on Saturday (3:30 p.m.) in a Mid-American Conference game.
