
Baseball Signs 6 to Letters of Intent

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan baseball coach Steve Jaksa announced Thursday the signing of six players to the National Letters of Intent.
The six are left-handed pitcher Garrett Nicholson of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia; infielder/catcher Zavier Warren of Southfield, pitcher/shortstop Jordan Patty of Midland, pitcher Mike Madura of Munster, Ind., pitcher/outfielder Logan Buczkowski of Mount Pleasant, and catcher Jordyn Muffley, a transfer from Parkland (Ill.) College.
"Solid kids and what they're going to do, we feel really good about them," Jaksa said. "They play hard, good attitudes across the board."
Muffley he hit .390 with four home runs last season at Parkland, a junior college program known for churning out players who go on to successful careers at various four-year institutions. He is a graduate of Portage Central High School.
Buczkowski is a 6-foot-3, 205-pound left-handed hitter who is in the midst of a three-sport standout career at Mount Pleasant High School. He is a two-time All-Saginaw Valley Association selection in baseball, and earned a spot on the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association All-State Second Team in 2015.
Madura is a 6-foot-5, 170-pound right-hander who went 6-1 with a 0.81 earned run average last season for his summer team, the Hammon Chiefs. He is ranked as the No. 30 player in Indiana by Prep Baseball Report (PBR) and No. 40 by Perfect Game.
Patty is a right-hander out of Midland High School. In 2016, he was the Co-Most Valuable Player in the Saginaw Valley League and the Midland Daily News All-Area Dream Team captain. He finished 7-1 with a 1.38 ERA a year ago, recording 81 strikeouts against 14 walks in 71 innings. He hit .386 and drove in 25 runs.
Warren, who plays at Birmingham Groves, is a switch hitter and the No. 19-ranked player in Michigan by PBR. He hit .398 with three homers, 21 stolen bases and drove in 36 runs a year ago.
Nicholson is a veteran of the under-17 Nova Scotia provincial team.
