
Six Chippewas Earn All-MAC Honors in Football

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Six Central Michigan student-athletes have been named to the 2016 All-Mid-American Conference Football Team.
CMU's Amari Coleman and Malik Fountain were named to the first team on defense; Corey Willis and Joe Ostman were named to the second team, Willis on offense, Ostman on defense; and Cooper Rush and Josh Cox were named to third team, Rush on offense, Cox on defense.
Coleman, a junior cornerback from Flint, has four interceptions and has defended 19 passes this season. He leads the MAC in passes defended and is tied for first in interceptions.
Fountain, a sophomore middle linebacker from Chicago, leads the Chippewas with 84 tackles including 10 tackles-for-loss.
Willis, a junior from Holland, has enjoyed a breakout season in 2016, catching 69 passes for 1,028 yards and nine touchdowns, all team-highs. He ranks fourth in the MAC in receiving yardage and in receiving yards per game (85.3).
Ostman, a junior defensive end from St. Ignace, ranks third on the team with 64 tackles. He leads the Chippewas in both sacks (9) and tackles-for-loss (13 ½) and ranks second and sixth, respectively, in the league in those categories.
Rush, a senior from Charlotte, is wrapping up a brilliant collegiate career as one of the all-time best to have ever played at CMU.
He has completed 61.1 percent of his passes for 3,299 yards and 23 touchdowns against 13 interceptions. He averages 274.3 yards per game passing, which ranks second in the league.
Cox, who plays on the corner opposite Coleman, has three interceptions, has defended four passes this season, and has been credited with 45 tackles.
It marks the first time that Coleman, Fountain, Willis and Cox have earned All-MAC honors. Rush was named to the All-MAC Second Team last season, and Ostman earned third team honors in 2014.
The Chippewas (6-6) will learn their bowl destination on Sunday.
