
Chippewas Fall to Illinois State, 13-7

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Illinois State collected 15 hits and used the big inning Saturday in handing the Central Michigan baseball team a 13-7 loss in the Snowbird Baseball Classic.
The Chippewas (3-11) play the final game in the Classic and of their Spring Break trip on Sunday (10 a.m.) against Saint Joseph's.
The Redbirds (6-8) struck for seven runs in the sixth inning in building a 10-0 lead on the Chippewas.
Alex Borglin had three hits including two doubles and drove in four runs to lead a 14-hit CMU attack.
Also for the Chippewas, Zach McKinstry had three hits including a triple; Jarrod Watkins, Daniel Robinson and Dazon Cole had two hits apiece; and Ryan Heeke and Daniel Jipping each singled.
McKinstry, Robinson and Heeke each drove in a run.
Connor Kelly (0-1), who relieved starter Michael Brettell to start the sixth, took the loss.
The Redbirds batted around in the sixth, getting a three-run home run and a solo shot.
Brettell, a freshman right-hander, allowed three runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out six over five innings.
Brady Williams and Cole also pitched in relief.
CMU plays a non-league game at Bowling Green on Tuesday then goes next weekend to Cincinnati where they will play Xavier in a three-game series.
