MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan's annual spring football game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
The pregame festivities begin with a Kids Clinic, which comprises an autograph session with CMU players, a talk from coach John Bonamego, a locker room tour, instruction and a pizza lunch.
A car show is slated to begin at 11 a.m. in lot 62W adjacent to the stadium.
The Kelly/Shorts Stadium gates open for the game at noon. Admission to all events is free. Registration for the Kids Clinic, which is scheduled for the Indoor Athletic Complex, begins at 10 a.m.
Second-year CMU coach John Bonamego said he looks forward to the day's events, not only to get a look at his 2016 Chippewas in game-like conditions, but for the opportunity to show off his team to the CMU students, faculty, staff and the community at large.
"I've said it before, this isn't my football team," Bonamego said. "This is our football team. This is Central Michigan University's football team. The team belongs to the university and represents the university and it's a part of our community.
"Any time we can involve our student body, involve our faculty, involve our staff, involve the community, and help make them feel like a part of it is great. It benefits everybody.
"It benefits the kids because it gives them a chance to be around our players and get to know them. We have some extremely high-character kids in our football program and I think they're great examples to young people and what they may be trying to aspire to become one day.
"And I think it's great for the kids in our program to interact with young people, the fans, and the people in our Mount Pleasant community. The business people that support not just football, but our entire athletic program."
