CMU Baseball Drops Series Finale At Xavier

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Xavier broke a 4-4 tie with a two-run eighth inning Sunday in handing Central Michigan a 7-4 loss in the final game of a three-game non-conference baseball series at the Musketeers' Hayden Field.
CMU (4-15) dropped all three games to Xavier on the road trip. The Chippewas will host Bowling Green (6-10) on Tuesday at 3:05 p.m. in the Chippewas' home opener. Though both CMU and Bowling Green are members of the Mid-American Conference, it is a non-league game.
Brady Williams walked Andre Jerningan and Chris Givin to start the Xavier sixth. After both stole bases to move into scoring position, Sean Renzi relieved Williams and surrendered a two-out, two-run single to Matt Fallon to put the Musketeers up, 6-4.
Daniel Robinson had two doubles and a single in leading the 10-hit Chippewa attack. Zach McKinstry and Jarrod Sullivan had two hits each. Ryan Heeke, Daniel Jipping and Alex Borglin each singled.
Heeke finished with two RBI, while Jipping and Sullivan had one each.
Williams (0-1) worked 1 2/3 innings in relief of starter Pat Leatherman and took the loss. Williams allowed two runs, walked three and struck out four.
Leatherman went four innings, allowing four runs on six hits. He struck out six and walked two. Renzi went the final 2 1/3 innings, allowing two hits while walking two.
Richard Damien (1-1) worked 4 2/3 innings of relief and picked up the win. He allowed two hits and struck out four. Starter Trent Astle pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits.
Daniel Rizzie and Matt Fallon homered for Xavier.
