
Softball Drops Two In Florida

CLEARWATER, Fla. - A bases-loaded hit batsman in the sixth inning forced in the game's only run Friday as Sam Houston State handed Central Michigan a 1-0 loss in the Chipppewas' opener in the University of South Florida Under Armour Invitational.
The Chippewas dropped an 11-3 decision to Illinois in their second game of the day. CMU (4-8) is scheduled to play two games on Saturday: Cornell at 12:15 p.m. and East Carolina at 2:45 p.m.
Hanna Warren allowed six hits, struck out four and walked one in taking the loss against Sam Houston State.
The Chippewas managed just two hits, singles by Lacy Tolfree and Chelsea DeLamielleure, off Sam Houston's Lindsey McLeod (3-1), who struck out nine and walked one.
Katie Doerre had two hits to lead Sam Houston State.
Illinois collected 17 hits including a pair of home runs off two CMU pitchers in downing the Chippewas, 11-3.
Rachel Knapp (3-3) allowed five runs on 11 hits with two walks over 4 2/3 innings in taking the loss. Laura Vaccaro worked two innings in relief, allowing three runs on six hits.
Remeny Perez and Nicole Evans homered for the Illini (10-6).
Jade Vecvanags (6-3) allowed seven hits, walked two and struck out three for the victory.
The Chippewas totaled seven hits, two each by CarolAnn Sexauer and DeLamielleure. Tolfree, Katelyn Rentschler and Maison Kalina each singled.
