
Chippewas Drop Game 2 At Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Missouri State set the tone with a 5-run first inning Friday as the Bears handed Central Michigan a 9-1 loss in game two of a three-game non-league baseball series at the Bears' Hammons Field.
The teams play the final game of the series Saturday at 3:05 p.m.
Jeremy Eierman hit a grand slam to highlight the Bears' first inning and Missouri State (21-5) added two more runs in the second to put the Chippewas in a 7-0 hole.
Left-hander Nick Deeg (1-6) took the loss. He allowed eight runs (six earned) on five hits, walked five and struck out three over four innings. Jimmy McNamara and Michael Brettell worked in relief for CMU.
Missouri State starter Dylan Coleman (4-1) held the Chippewas scoreless on four hits over seven innings. He struck out 11. Ryan Mantle went the final two innings.
The Chippewas (5-22) avoided the shutout by scoring a run in the ninth inning on Alex Borglin's two-out RBI single.
Borglin and Zach McKinstry finished with two hits apiece for CMU. Jarrod Watkins added a single.
Redshirt freshman Pat Leatherman (0-2) will start for the Chippewas on Saturday.
