CLINTON, S.C. - Summer Abdalla and Riley Huda scored three goals apiece Sunday as the Central Michigan lacrosse team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 14-7 non-conference win over Presbyterian at the Blue Hose's Old Bailey Stadium.
The win in its final non-conference game of the season lifted CMU to 4-6. The Chippewas play host to Jacksonville on Friday and Stetson on Sunday in Atlantic Sun Conference games. Presbyterian is 3-11.
Central Michigan coach Sara Tisdale declared before Sunday's game that if her offensive unit recorded 30 shots, it would fly out of the state of South Carolina with a victory.
The Chippewas didn't reach that mark, but their efficiency - they recorded 19 shots, slightly more than their average - was plenty as they played their selective game, utilizing pin-point shooting to record their fifth double-digit goal total of the season.
"Presbyterian provided an interesting matchup while playing a unique zone," said Tisdale, whose team seized a 4-2 halftime lead then outscored the Blue Hose, 10-5 in the second half. "Once we hit our stride in the second half, you saw the confidence kind of grow and saw great leadership on the field."
Huda scored twice as the Chippewas surged to a 4-1 advantage midway through the opening half.
"Riley is one of those players where her contribution isn't recorded on the score sheet," Tisdale said. "Whe provides a great sense of leadership on the field vocally and through her demeanor.
"Yes she was able to record those great stats for us, but what Riley really did for us couldn't be measured in terms of those black and white numbers."
The Chippewas controlled 12 draws to nine for Presbyterian, and they finished at 64 percent on ground ball opportunities.
CMU goalkeeper Dominique Hamman recorded five saves.
"Dom did a pretty good job, she came up with some saves," Tisdale said. "One thing that was great about Dom today is that (Presbyterian) shot the same way twice and scored but the third time she came up with it so you can see her making adjustments."
Also for the Chippewas, Jocelyne Lemay and Auguste Jepsen each scored twice, while Anna Schoonover, Natalie Bloniarz and Kaitlin Kimble added a goal. Schoonover finished with three assists and Abdalla had two.
