
Chippewas Drop MAC Game At Western

KALAMAZOO, Mich. â€" The Central Michigan softball team couldn't get the big hit when it needed it Wednesday in dropping a 6-0 Mid-American Conference game to Western Michigan at the Broncos' Fran Ebert Field.
The loss, CMU's third straight, dropped the Chippewas to 15-21-1 overall, 2-8-1 MAC. They play host to Toledo in a three-game MAC series beginning on Friday. The Rockets are 8-28, 3-8. Western Michigan improved to 16-18, 7-3 with the win on Wednesday.
The Chippewas managed just three hits -- singles by Katelyn Rentschler and Sara Hansen and a double by Sydney Heath â€" off Western Michigan pitcher Allyson Kus (11-9), who went the distance and is 5-0 with a 1.17 earned run average in her last five starts.
CMU stranded five runners, all in scoring position.
Rachael Knapp (7-11) allowed four runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings in taking the loss. She struck out two and walked one. Hanna Warren worked 1 1/3 innings in relief, granting two runs on two hits.
Abby Stoner's two-out two-run homer in the fourth inning put the Broncos up 2-0. Western Michigan added two more in the fifth and two in the sixth.
