YPSILANTI, Mich. â€" Nick Deeg was solid on the mound again.
Eastern Michigan's Augie Gallardo was just a bit better.
Eastern Michigan got a two-run homer in the sixth inning Saturday in handing Central Michigan a 3-0 loss in a Mid-American Conference baseball game at the Eagles' Oestrike Stadium.
The teams close their three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Chippewas are 11-32 overall, 5-9 MAC; Eastern is 17-22, 8-6. Eastern took the series opener on Friday, 6-1.
Deeg (2-7), who tossed a complete-game shutout last Saturday against Toledo, allowed two runs on six hits, walked three and struck out five over 7 1/3 innings in taking the loss.
Michael Brettell allowed a run on two hits in 2/3 of an inning in relief.
"Nick did what he had to do," CMU coach Steve Jaksa said. "He really competed for us out there. That's another really quality performance.
"When you look at a starter going deep in a game, he gave us that, pitched a quality ball game for us. If he continues to do that we'll be in those games."
Gallardo, a senior right-hander, allowed just one hit, a fourth-inning infield single by Zach McKinstry. He struck out 10 and walked four.
Eastern Michigan broke through against Deeg in the sixth when Mitchell McGeein led off with a single and Jeremy Stidham hit a two-out, two-run homer to left.
The Eagles added an insurance run in the eighth when Mike Moiduszewski scored on a throwing error.
Alex Borglin's eighth-inning single off reliever Matthew Beaton was the only other hit for the Chippewas. Beaton earned the save, his third.
Borglin extended his hitting streak to seven games. He is hitting .464 (13-for-28) over that span.
